Members of the Transparency Group (TG) in the House of Representatives have said that former Appropriation Committee Chairman, Abdulmumin Jibrin is just as guilty as the lawmakers he’s accusing of padding the 2016 budget.
Jibrin has accused Speaker, Yakubu Dogara; Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun; Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa; and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of smuggling N284 billion into the 2016 budget.
10 principal officers of the House have also disowned Jibrin due to the allegations.
According to the TG however, Jibrin is also guilty of participating in the alleged padding.
“Mr President returned the first budget, which both Senator Danjuma Goje and Jibrin worked on as the joint chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Appropriation,” Bashir Baballe, a member of the group said to buttress the allegations against Jibrin.
The group also urged the police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) to proceed with the investigation into the allegations.
Jibrin was one of the lawmakers who insisted that the budget had not been padded despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence that it had.
