The Abia State government has established an administrative panel of inquiry to review the recognition and issuance of staff of office to some traditional rulers on May 9, 2023, by the previous administration.
The panel was inaugurated by the Abia State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, Uzo Nwachukwu, and is chaired by Magistrate Uche Uwanuakwa Uche (retd), with Chuka Agomo serving as secretary.
Other members of the panel include the chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Linus Nto Mba, the second deputy chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Franklin Nwosu, and Mr Dominic Chimbo.

Inaugurating the panel at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia, Abia State, Uzo Nwachukwu stated that its purpose was to address litigations and issues arising in some communities in the state following the recognition and issuance of certificates of office to certain traditional rulers.
The panel is also tasked with investigating why staff of office and certificates were allegedly handed over to two persons as traditional rulers, as well as examining allegations that some recipients of certificates and staff of office were not elected by their people.
Nwachukwu specified that the panel has a two-month deadline to complete its assignment and submit its reports to the state government.
He advised the panel members to conduct their duties with integrity and warned against victimizing anyone in the process.
Responding to the commissioner’s charge, the panel’s chairman, Uche Uwanuakwa Uche, assured that they would carry out their work diligently.
