It is an inspiration to all of us that Iyalode Alaba Lawson was the first African student to achieve a 1st Class Diploma in Education with distinction at St. Nicholas Montessori Teachers’ Training College in England. Iyalode Alaba Lawson received her early education at St. James’ African Primary School in Abeokuta, and she went on to become the first African student to do so.
As we consider her legacy, we remember her as the Past President of NACCIMA, the first female National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and the first female President of the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI). In addition, she was the first female President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA). Her commitment to the expansion of business and industry in Nigeria and West Africa will be remembered and cherished for all time.
Iyalode Lawson’s dedication to education was made clear by the fact that she founded the Lawson Group of Schools, which is responsible for offering a high-quality education to a large number of pupils. Her leadership encompassed the Board of Governing Council of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, which is located in Ogun State, as well as a variety of other human endeavors.
Furthermore, her philanthropic efforts, which include providing scholarships to less privileged pupils and students, supporting traders in elevating their businesses, and advocating against the mistreatment of women, are evidence of her compassion and dedication to improving the lives of others.
The late Iyalode of Yorubaland was not only a model of superior leadership but also a staunch advocate for the advancement of women’s rights. She is remembered as a symbol of greatness in both of these fields. Her persistent support for women in a variety of professions was demonstrated via the several positions she played, such as serving as the Matron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, and the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), South-West Nigeria.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Iyalode Alaba Lawson, as well as her friends, associates, and all those whose lives she touched in any way, on behalf of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, Ogun PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in the just concluded 2023 election, and the entire Ogun State PDP family. In addition, we express our condolences on behalf of the entire Ogun State PDP family. During this trying moment, we feel your pain and share it with you.
We commemorate the legacy of Iyalode Alaba Lawson and the tremendous impact she had on our society as a whole while we lament the loss of an outstanding woman.
