The Anambra state House of Assembly on Tuesday urged Governor Willie Obiano to immortalise a former Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

The motion to immortalise Akunyili was moved by the member representing Orumba-South constituency, Nikky Ugochuikwu, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development.
The lawmaker argued that the immortalisation of Prof. Akunyili would spur other citizens of the state to be fully committed in the pursuit of excellence in their various areas of endeavour.
She described the late minister as an icon who rendered selfless service to the country and made Anambra State proud.
Specifically, Mrs. Ugochuikwu noted that Akunyili’s tenure as the Director-General of NAFDAC saved many lives in the country.
She, therefore, urged the House to implore the state governor to immortalise Akunyili.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.
