The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Nwokpoku Emmanuel, for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Awka.
“The Anambra State Police Command has in custody one Nwokpoku Emmanuel, male, 34 years, over a case of armed robbery and kidnapping,” Ikenga stated.
Details of the Crime
According to the police, Emmanuel and his gang kidnapped a victim, demanded a ransom of N15 million, and subsequently released the victim after the payment.
The gang also made away with the victim’s red Mercedes Benz GLE 450, which was later tracked and recovered by police operatives at MCC Junction, Onitsha.
Efforts to Arrest Accomplices
Ikenga revealed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, including their leader, identified as Ebuka, who is currently on the run.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nnaghe Itam, has directed that all members of the gang be arrested and prosecuted.
He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to enhancing security across the state through strategic operations.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to ensure the safety of lives and property.
