The Ondo State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for declaring elections in the Ilaje constituencies inconclusive following alleged cases of irregularities during last Saturday’s election in the state.
The APC Chairman in Ilaje council, Olumide Ikuopenikan, said that the election was militarized.
Ikuopenikan in a statement in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said: “We received the position of INEC on the Ilaje state constituencies election held on April 11, 2015 with satisfaction.
“For declaring the election inconclusive, INEC has affirmed our earlier position that the election was indeed militarized.
“I commend INEC for looking into our complaints and acting in the interest of justice and democracy despite the pressure from government and its agents seeking to rail road INEC into their undemocratic plots.
“However, our opinion is that the election ought to have been cancelled outrightly instead of declaring it inconclusive.
“The election was characterised with violence of unimaginable magnitude orchestrated and supervised by agents of the government of the day.
“The sonorous sound of gunshots and the rate at which guns were freely used by hired thugs reminded the people of Ilaje the gory tales of the Nigeria civil war”.
