In a firm declaration, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, affirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will not provide protection to any military personnel found guilty of illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
Gen Musa conveyed this commitment during his visit to the Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), on Monday in Abuja.
Commending the NDLEA for its remarkable achievements in combating drug abuse and trafficking, Gen Musa highlighted the positive impact this has had on altering Nigeria’s international perception.

Expressing unwavering support, Gen Musa pledged the continued collaboration of the armed forces with NDLEA in their renewed efforts against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
During the visit, he stated, “On our part, we will not shield anybody found guilty of drugs.
We have made a number of arrests in the Northeast at our checkpoints and all. We pick them up and prosecute them.”
Gen Musa emphasized the importance of addressing drug abuse comprehensively, advocating for serious consideration of rehabilitation efforts.
He acknowledged that some individuals unknowingly fall into drug abuse due to peer pressure.
Stressing the holistic approach needed to combat drug abuse, Gen Musa urged cooperation and communication, assuring, “To convey to our troops that we are together and working as a team, if there are issues, especially with the members of the armed forces, please don’t hesitate and let us know.
We will take adequate action.
We don’t want drugs in our system.” This unwavering stance underscores the Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring the well-being of its personnel.
