Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has commissioned the first state-owned emergency helicopter service in Nigeria. Ambode commissioned the project, meant for use in medical emergencies, on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja. Ambode also said that the maternity ward of the hospital, popularly called Ayinke House, would be ready for use by 2017.

The UNICEF Chief of Communication, Doune Porter, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that the campaign would commence in the accessible parts of the state. The Federal Government has confirmed a fresh outbreak of the Wild Polio Virus (WPV) in Borno State. The two new cases were discovered in the in Gwoza and Jere Local Government Areas two years after Nigeria was declared polio-free.
