Plateau State Polytechnic Students yesterday staged a peaceful protest to demand what they termed failure of the school authority to provide students with their Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) pin number. An eye witness account who spoke on condition of anonymity said the students had to stage the peaceful demonstration in order to register their displeasure over what the students said was the inability of students to generate Retrieval Remittance Reference (RRR) even after the payment of the sum of N1,500 per student at the point of registration. The Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed reiterated that the 16 local government councils in the State are financially autonomous. The governor, who said this while fielding questions from journalists during an interactive radio programme, tagged ‘The Governor Explains’, noted that the LGs receive and control their federal allocation directly without interference from the state government. Plateau State Police Command has promoted a total of 144 officers of the command from one level to another while dismissing a police officer for killing a civilian. Plateau State Government has disclosed that it has received $1.5 million for its Save One Million Lives programme for Results (SOML) funded by the Federal Government and World Bank. The state Programme Manager of the Save One Million Lives for Results, Mr Philimeon Dagwa‎, disclosed this on Monday in Jos at the opening of the Integrated Supportive Supervision training workshop it organised for 82 health workers in ‎the state. Work has commenced at two Dams that are located at Heipang, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. Activities resumed at the sites after a decade of work stoppage by the Federal Government.
