Nnamdi Kanu has accused the Nigerian Army of trying to provoke the group into a war following reports that his Umuahia home was attacked. Kanu has said the army’s leadership is not telling the truth to the public about the ordeal, claiming that the soldiers were indeed after him. Kanu said, “At the end of the junction of this untarred road is where they parked their tanks. I saw them, go and watch the video. They moved up and they reversed and came back. “They turned their tires to come in here, and the young men said no, they won’t…

Great news?
Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue on Monday said the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), was not effective in its operations. He said the that the agency had shown over the years that it is ineffective and needed to step up. “That agency has proven over the years that they are ineffective; tell me what they have done. It is not right for them to claim responsibility. “Whosoever is claiming responsibility from FERMA for repairing that road is a liar because it has been repaired at the instance of the Benue State Government through Triacta, currently constructing the Mobile Barracks Road.…
Audu Ogbeh has warned that Nigeria might be facing a scarcity of cow meat very soon. According to him, the country’s consumption of cow meat is not the same as its calving activities, putting the country in economic danger if not adequately addressed. “The way we are consuming cows, slaughtering them is quite alarming. Lagos alone consumes 6,000 cows a day, that’s the figure at abattoirs, not figure from birthday parties and burial ceremonies and so on. “Imagine what Port Harcourt consumes; or Umuahia, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna and Maiduguri. If you add it up, we may be eating up to…
Mr Babatunde Fashola has begged the power sector stakeholders to co-operate with the Nigerian Electricity and Regulatory Commission (NERC) in performance of its regulatory functions. The former governor said that the NERC needed stakeholders’ support to complete regulations for metering service providers and eligible customers. At another meeting, Fashola declared customer eligibility regime for some categories of electricity consumers. He said if stakeholders were to cooperate with the NERC, it would speed up completion of the customer eligibility declaration and the mini-grid regulation permit. “The vice-chairman of NERC informed me that a solar-based mini-grid facility will be commissioned in Kigbe…
Babatunde Fashola recently inaugurated one 15 MVA transformer, 20 operational transformers and 20 vehicles at Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco) worth billions of Naira. The minister also expressed total satisfaction on the performance of the management team of Eko Disco “l was not surprised when the owners of Eko Disco decided to keep him (Amoda). “He is not only a prolific scholar, who reads and writes well, he is also technically savvy as you can see in his unscripted remarks. “I want to thank Engineer Amoda for his warm remarks. I knew him way back when I was the…
Olusegun Obasanjo has suggested that former President Goodluck Jonathan did not take the Boko Haram sect seriously. The former president said that he briefed Jonathan on the grievances of the terror group. Obasanjo said “I went out in 2011 to Maiduguri. I took great risk to find out what is really happening about Boko Haram, do they have grievances, if they have grievances, what are their grievances and I brought all that to Jonathan. “Jonathan didn’t believe that Boko Haram was a serious issue. He thought that it was a device by the North to prevent him from continuing as…
Neymar rejected the chance to “play with the best players,” Arsene Wenger has said in a recent interview. The Brazil captain exited Barcelona to join PSG in a world record €222 million transfer over the summer, where he will form a front three with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe. “Neymar never expressed exactly in his statement the reasons of his move, because there is always a huge desire for the players to play with the best players,” Wenger said. “He decided to go the other way, so that is… for financial reasons, or for reasons that he thinks Paris Saint-Germain…
Jose Mourinho confirmed David De Gea will start Manchester United’s Champions League match with Basel despite choosing Sergio Romero ahead of the Spainiard for vital Europa League games last season. De Gea did not feature in the Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm, among other matches in the competition, as Mourinho decided to field his No. 2 Romero. But De Gea will be back in goal when the Champions League returns to Old Trafford for the first time in nearly two years on Tuesday night. “I go match by match. I don’t like that clear separation of you play…
Carlo Ancelotti has said speculation he is ready to take a job in China is “a joke” as he is focussing on Champions League glory with Bayern Munich. Former Bayern winger Mario Basler told Sport1 he had heard from a “very trustworthy source” that the 58-year-old had a pre-contract agreement in place to join a Chinese Super League. “A few days ago, I heard that Carlo Ancelotti has already signed a contract for a club abroad starting in the winter,” Basler said. “Apparently he’s already signed a pre-contract at the place where the most money is — in China.” He…
Jose Mourinho has played down Manchester United’s chances of winning the Champions League this season. United make their comeback to the competition on Tuesday night when Swiss champions Basel visit Old Trafford. “I think in the Champions League there are four or five teams with an incredible level of quality and experience and know how and that’s what makes the difference. “Apart from that there many teams in Champions League who are very similar to teams in the Europa League. “Feyenoord and Anderlecht were in the Europa League last season and are champions in their countries and now playing in…
We are wise enough these days never to write Atletico off but the obvious questions will continue to get raised. How smoothly will they adapt to life at their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium, both domestically and on those big UCL nights? Can a tight-knit squad gather up the energy that will required by Diego Simeone yet again? Will they be able to forget their summer transfer ban and, if necessary, use January to add a little extra players? In truth they could do with that now, as Chelsea and Roma will be tough group stage opponents, but it would be…
Every time we feel Barcelona is dead, they come back fighting. That was certainly the case in the stunning round of 16 comeback against PSG last season, the difference this time being that the man who tilted the balance has switched sides. The loss of Neymar destroyed Barca’s summer but it would be a foolish stance to rule them out of contention even if there is an feeling of transition under Ernesto Valverde. Lionel Messi has not shown he is ready to stop being the most talented in the world and there remains star quality throughout the squad. A lot…
Antonio Conte has suggested that he will make notable changes to his Chelsea team to face Qarabag in the Champions League on Tuesday, but deadline day signing Danny Drinkwater is likely to still miss out through injury. Chelsea’s r Champions League comeback falls within a difficult September run of seven matches in 21 days across three competitions, and Conte must also plan for the visit of rivals Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. “We played a tough game [against Leicester City] and for sure now if we play seven games in 21 days, it’s not easy,” Conte said. “For this…
Was Neymar the final piece in PSG’s Champions League jigsaw? That is the reasoning but too many maybes remain to unreservedly suggest they are the team best placed to put an end to Real Madrid’s run of success. Dani Alves, who was key for Juventus in the latter stages of last season’s competition, should prove as useful to their European prospects as his compatriot and PSG can certainly end a barren spell of 23 years without a semifinal berth. Kylian Mbappe adds another interesting option to an amazing front line but you wonder whether they have Champions League-winning depth in…
You just have to feel very soon things will happen for City in Europe and they look far better equipped for a challenge on the Champions League than during last season’s ultimately terrible campaign. Signing two new players who were so influential for the Monaco team that beat them, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva, is a step in the right direction. With Kyle Walker also on board they now have the kind of energetic, attacking full-backs a convincing challenge warrants. Pep Guardiola will not keep falling short forever. With Gabriel Jesus showing he can be a reliable Sergio Aguero deputy,…
Real Madrid might be the team to beat in the Champions League. Zinedine Zidane’s men have won the tournament two times consecutively, making it 12 in total, as they once again defeated all before them last season. They may have missed out on Leonardo Bonucci remaining in the squad after he joined arch rivals AC Milan but it would be stupid to assume Juventus are not a major contender this time around. While Bonucci’s absence is notideal, several key members of a team that was solid at both ends last season is back and they have enough world class talent…
After what was nothing but a bore-draw away to Valencia, Atletico Madrid travel to Rome hoping to give their fans a bit more to be happy about in the UEFA Champions League. Diego Simeone has transformed Atletico Madrid from a mid-table team to Europe’s top table. Now is the time for the club to take the last remaining step forward in their journey for glory and go all the way in the Champion League. Only one team — Real Madrid — has knocked Atleti out of Europe in the past four seasons and they have been heartbreakingly close in the…
