Chelsea first-team doctor Eva Carneiro will be dropped from the bench for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City after criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.
The Chelsea boss lashed out at his medical staff who he said were “naïve” for treating Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw at home to Swansea.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Carneiro will continue in her position as Chelsea first-team doctor but her role at the Premier League champions will now be significantly changed.
She will continue to consult with first-team players at the club’s Cobham training ground but will no longer attend matches or training sessions.
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off on 52 minutes at Stamford Bridge over the weekend, and the hosts were later reduced to nine men for some time after staff ran on to the pitch to treat Hazard when he was felled.
Players are expected to leave the field of play before receiving treatment on the pitch.
“I was unhappy with my medical staff. They were impulsive and naïve,” said Mouriinho.
“Whether you are a kit man, doctor or secretary on the bench you have to understand the game.”
