Report from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s Secretary-General, Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani has described the Boko Haram insurgents as anti-Islam. He stated categorically that Islam can never be a religion that justifies the act of killing people, and the abduction of innocent children. “They are criminals. Their doctrines are not Islamic. Boko Haram is anti-Islam”
The OIC’s Secretary-General made this statement when he visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali on Monday, 2nd June, 2014 in Abuja.
He disclosed that he and members of his delegation are currently visiting Nigeria as a mark of solidarity and support, especially, in this very trying period of insurgency in the country. He reiterated OIC’s preparedness to cooperate with Nigeria in combating terrorism and prayed that “Nigeria would emerge victorious.”
In the same vein, he commended the present Administration for the Transformation Agenda and especially Nigeria’s new status, which ranks her as the 26th largest economy globally and the largest in Africa.
The Minister expressed appreciation for OIC’s support and solidarity at a time Nigeria was facing peace and security challenges. He called for the strengthening of the bilateral relations, politically, economically and socially.
Ambassador Wali then commended the supportive (humanitarian and security) role of the organization in Africa, especially in Central African Republic, East Africa, mali and Somalia.
Organization of Islamic Cooperation is a political organization with about fifty-seven (57) member countries committed to promoting inter-faith dialogue and humanitarian activities.
