The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected drug peddler in possession of 116 wraps of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Maiduguri, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed that the arrest was made by the Anti-Vice Squad following credible intelligence.
“On January 10, at about 11:30 a.m., the squad apprehended Kabura Kayuram, a resident of Jajeri Ward in Maiduguri, with 116 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp,” the statement said.
According to the police, the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, reiterated the command’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and other social vices through community-based policing initiatives.
He also called on parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and remain vigilant to prevent involvement in criminal activities.
