The election of Muktar Umar Yerima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been declared void by the National and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal located in Kano.
The panel further ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke Yerima’s prior certificate of return.
Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) filed the case, contesting Yerima’s nomination on the grounds that he lacked qualifications.

The Tarauni Federal Constituency House of Representatives election was proclaimed by INEC to have Yerima as the winner, as the DAILY POST remembers.
But according to Daily Trust, Yerima’s primary school diploma was faked, thus the three-member tribunal chaired by Justice I.P. Chima ruled that Yerima lacked qualifications.
The tribunal determined that Yerima’s argument that he changed his name in 2022 was inadmissible because he had been using three different names—Umar Mukhtar Zakari—on his passports since 2009 and his elementary school diploma still listed Umar Mukhtar.
Additionally, it declared that the aforementioned primary school, Hausawa Primary School, had rejected the document that the fired lawmaker had presented.
It was decided that the NNPP did not have a candidate in the election as a result.
