The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced training for stakeholders on the automated transire system, aimed at enhancing efficiency in cargo clearance and cross-border trade operations. The initiative seeks to familiarize importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and other industry players with the digital platform designed to streamline transit procedures and reduce processing delays.
The automated transire system is part of Customs’ broader efforts to modernize trade facilitation, minimize human intervention, and curb irregularities in cargo movement. By digitizing the transire process, Customs aims to improve compliance, enhance transparency, and accelerate the clearance of goods at ports and border posts.
During the training sessions, officials provided stakeholders with insights on the benefits of the system, including faster document processing, reduced paperwork, and improved tracking of goods in transit. Customs officers also addressed common challenges faced by traders and demonstrated how the new system simplifies cross-border trade operations.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that the automation of transire processes will significantly reduce bottlenecks and improve Nigeria’s ranking in global trade efficiency indices. Many believe that embracing technology in customs operations will not only boost revenue generation but also encourage more seamless trade within the West African region.
The NCS has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous stakeholder engagement, urging businesses to adopt the automated system for improved compliance and operational efficiency. As digital transformation continues to shape Nigeria’s trade landscape, Customs is optimistic that the new transire process will contribute to a more robust and transparent import-export system.
