The People of Bayelsa State, Sundaygave kudos to Nigerians for the support they have given to President Goodluck Jonathan in his administration’s efforts at sustaining peace and stability in the country.
This was the highpoint of the five-point communiqué issued at the end of a consultative meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders Advisory Forum in Government House, Yenagoa.
The meeting, which lasted for about five hours, x-rayed the state of affairs of the ruling party in Bayelsa and the government towards charting a new course to move the state forward in the light of the prevailing economic realities.
The communiqué, which was signed by the Chairman of the forum and former governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Secretary, Chief Thompson Okorotie, also appreciated the solidarity shown to President Jonathan in his efforts at maintaining peace and security in the country.
Appreciating Governor Seriake Dickson for his developmental strides, it gave thumbs up to the present state administration for the enthronement of peace and stability, noting that the governor’s ability to carry everybody along in the restoration government has given all a sense of belonging.
The forum also congratulated President Jonathan, the PDP and the people and newly elected Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose for his victory at the polls.
Addressing the forum which had in attendance, former Acting Governors of the stateChief Werinipre Seibarugu and deputy governor Peremobowei Ebebi, Governor Seriake Dickson noted that, as the 2015 general elections draw closer, it has become imperative for Bayelsans to further strengthen their support base for President Jonathan.
Describing the forum as consultative, the governor urged Bayelsans to always place the interest of the state above personal considerations, stressing that, the only way the state could make progress was for all stakeholders to work together, irrespective of differences in political ideologies.
His words: “Our politics is always consultative that is why from the moment I became the candidate of our party, we felt that there was need to engage with the leaders of our party. So we started appointing caucus chairmen of the various chapters and then set up an elders committee.
“And, more than at any other time, now is the time for us to be each other’s keeper and promote political stability in the state.
Appraising the achievements of the State House of Assembly, the Speaker, Rt. Hon.Konbowei Benson, said in the last 28 months they have passed 41 bills into law and over 40 motions and pledged his unalloyed loyalty to the Governor Dickson-led administration.
In his remarks, chairman of the state PDP, retired Col. Sam Inokoba praised the governor’s ability to enthrone internal democracy in the PDP, which he noted has promoted peace and unity among members and party supporters.
Speaking, former governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha hailed Governor Dickson for his unprecedented and remarkable achievements in the state against the backdrop of dwindling federation revenue allocations.
According to Chief Alamieyeseigha, there is no part of Bayelsa State that Governor Dickson has not left his footprints of development to improve the standard of living of the people, particularly in the area of infrastructure.
“I wish to congratulate Governor Dickson for his developmental strides. There is no part of this state you move to that you will not see the footprints of this government.
“I am particularly impressed. He needs the support of every one of us. It is our state, because whatever he has been able to put on ground is for the use of every one of us. For me, I pledge my total loyalty to your administration.”
Also in attendance were former Secretary to State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei, former Managing Director of NDDC, Chief Ndutimi Alaibe, Special Adviser on Political Matters to former Governor Timipre Sylva, Chief George Fente, Chief Lionel Jonathan-Omo among other personalities.
