The Edo State Government has dismissed an allegation of financial recklessness made by the Peoples Democratic Party.
It said that the allegation was a desperate attempt to discredit the All Progressive Congress led administration.
The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, while inaugurating 10 Toyota buses procured by the Ego Local Government Council on Monday in Benin, said the APC administration believed in accountability.
Oshiomhole, who described the allegation as untrue, said if the state had such funds it would be channeled towards improving infrastructure in the state.
It would be recalled that the state chapter of the PDP, had last week, raised the alarm and alleged that the current administration recently spent more than N400 million on a trip to the US.
The PDP alleged that the governor went on the trip with the state executive council members, traditional rulers from Edo North Senatorial zone and some aides.
Meanwhile, the governor had urged the people to elect credible leaders who could protect their interest.
He advised those who would handle the new vehicles to ensure adequate maintenance, while appealing to the council chairman to employ some females as drivers.
Oshiomhole said that the buses would complement efforts of the government in the provision of intra-city transport services as well as ease the socio-economic life of the people.
Earlier, the Council Chairman, Mr Victor Enobakhare, said that the council procured the vehicles to complement the state government’s transportation initiatives.
Enobakhare also disclosed that 100 youths were currently undergoing entrepreneurial training in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment.
