The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2024 Edo election, Asue Ighodalo, has threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe.
In a letter issued by Banwo & Ighodalo, the PDP candidate accused Tenebe of making false and damaging statements in a widely circulated video.
Tenebe’s comments came in response to a gaffe by Governor Monday Okpebholo during the presentation of the 2025 budget to the Edo State House of Assembly.
Governor Okpebholo struggled to articulate the budget’s total estimate during the presentation, admitting that the figures were “confusing” him.
The incident, which drew laughter, quickly went viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions.
In his video response, Tenebe referenced the governor’s error, alleging that Ighodalo and Governor Godwin Obaseki would not have made such a mistake because “they had stolen billions before.”
Reacting to the claims, Ighodalo issued a seven-day ultimatum to Tenebe, demanding a full retraction, a public apology, and assurances against further defamatory remarks.
Legal representatives for Ighodalo emphasized that failure to meet these demands would result in legal action to protect their client’s reputation.
