Ekiti Deputy Governor Meets Ikere Royal Houses

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola has re-emphasized that neither the Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, himself nor any government organ has a preferred candidate and would not interference in any way in the ongoing selection process of the new Ogoga of Ikere.

The Deputy Governor reiterated this at a crucial peace meeting with the “Omo Owa”, a body comprising the Akayejo, Agaba Ola and Ogbenuotesoro Ruling Houses, to proffer a lasting solution to the lingering bickering over the selection of the new Ogoga.

Olusola said filling a vacant traditional stool is purely a traditional affair which has comprehensible traditional and statutory procedures to be followed to select the next heir to the throne and that as long as these fundamental procedures are followed, any candidate that emerged from the ruling house whose turn it is to rule and duly presented would be acceptable to the government.

The Deputy Governor, who explained that all what the governor, himself and the state Attorney General have been doing is just to ensure that peace continue to reign supreme in Ikere and nothing more, appealed to all parties concerned to jettison their personal interest and allow peace to reign.

He warned them not to drag the name of the governor, himself or the Commissioner for Justice into the crisis and to desist from carrying placards with demeaning captions about people of impeccable characters who are working day and night to ensure that peace and development do not elude Ikere-Ekiti.

Dr. Olusola also advised them to desist from speaking ill of the Regent, Princess Ayooye Adegboye-Oyinlola, whom he said has no preferred candidate as well but has been trying her best to ensure that the whole issue is resolved amicably and peace return to the town.

He pointed out that any denigrating statement about the Regent is desecration of Ikere tradition and the Ogoga Throne which Princess Ayooye now symbolizes as the present occupier of the throne, adding that such people would not escape the consequences if they fail to stop the act.

“Till you hear from the government, let there be peace and do not take the law into your hands. The government will ensure that the issue is amicably resolved and peace reign supreme in Ikere”, he concluded.

In their separate comments, some of the people who spoke, which included Prince Clement Adewumi, Prince Adebayo Ebenezer, Prince Ojo Adegbesan, Prince Kayode Adesoji Aderemi and Chief Samuel Abioye all appealed to the government to intervene and resolve the anomalies they had pointed out.

They all agreed that all stakeholders need to allow peace reign and join hands to ensure that nothing disrupt the peace and development of Ikere-Ekiti.
