Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarenwaju, has described former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as a unique figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Olarenwaju said El-Rufai stands out for his clarity of thought and strategic approach to politics, expressing confidence that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) would eventually have no justification for continuing his detention.
He made the remarks in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.

El-Rufai, a chieftain of the ADC, has been in ICPC custody since February 19, 2026, over allegations bordering on fraud and abuse of office.
On April 13, the anti-corruption agency arraigned the former governor before a Kaduna State High Court on an amended nine-count charge related to the alleged offences.
The former governor is currently standing trial and has reportedly been battling health challenges while his personal physician also remains under arrest.
Commenting on the development, Olarenwaju wrote:
“What makes El-Rufai unique in Nigeria’s politics is his clear headedness and depth of strategic thought with tactical implementational balance.
“He is not only a planner but if nobody will do the dirty work, my man will take off his white and enter the mud himself. Hate to love him.
“They will eventually run out of excuses to keep holding the man and then the nakedness of their hypocrisy will become too glaring to be concealed from and ignored by the outside world. Till then, it’s solidarity and courage.”
