Residents of Shavoh, a neighborhood in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, are living in fear following reports of suspected gunmen patrolling the area on Sunday night.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the unidentified individuals, armed with dangerous weapons, were seen monitoring homes during the early hours of Monday.
The armed figures were said to have been moving stealthily through the streets, sparking widespread concern among residents.
“We no longer feel safe even in our own homes,” a resident lamented, reflecting the unease in the community.
Community leaders and residents have called on the state government and security agencies to act swiftly, urging authorities to deploy personnel to investigate the reports and implement measures to prevent potential criminal activity.
“The situation demands immediate attention,” said a community elder. “We need the assurance that our lives and properties are secure.”
The leaders have also requested increased security patrols in the area to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area had not reported the incident.
He, however, assured that the Command would investigate the matter and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Residents remain on edge, awaiting prompt action to address their growing security concerns.
