The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the proposed tax reform bills are not aimed at scrapping any government agency but are designed to enhance efficiency and accountability.
Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), made this clarification during the flag-off of a National Sensitisation Campaign in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The campaign addressed issues including World HIV Day, Security Awareness, Discouraging Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome, World Human Rights Day, and the Tax Reform Bills.

Represented by the Director of Special Duties and State Operations, David Akoji, Issa-Onilu emphasized that the reform would require agencies to account for their budgetary provisions while improving service delivery.
Key Features of the Tax Reform Bills
Issa-Onilu explained that the reforms encompass four key bills:
- Nigeria Tax Bill
- Nigeria Tax Administration Bill
- Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill
- Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill
He highlighted that the reforms aim to eliminate double taxation, support low-income earners, and exempt businesses and earnings below ₦1 million from taxation.
“The tax reform bills will have a visible impact, as tax proceeds will be utilized to improve essential services such as schools, hospitals, and infrastructure across the country. Nigerians are encouraged to understand the details of these policies,” he said.
Sensitisation Efforts
Issa-Onilu revealed that NOA has deployed its resources to all local government areas nationwide to educate citizens about the reforms and other critical issues, including HIV/AIDS awareness.
He noted that the agency, in collaboration with health authorities, would carry out sensitization campaigns, particularly in rural communities, to address public health concerns and foster understanding of the government’s initiatives.
The Director General reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the reforms benefit Nigerians while promoting accountability and transparency in revenue collection and management.
