The FIFA/CAF Regional Seminar for National Security Officers opened on Tuesday, 12 May 2015 in Cairo, Egypt, highlighting the role of security and the need for safety during matches.
The seminar which runs till Thursday, 14 May 2015 seeks to strengthen the security and safety management during competitions and matches, and also provide assistance and equip the Security officers to handle related issues in their respective National Associations.
CAF Deputy General Secretary, Essam Ahmed in his opening remarks stressed on the on the fact that security and safety provides the environment for a festivity of enjoyment at every football, hence the need to equip such personnel with the required training and expertise to carry out their duties.
He cited security as one of the major concerns of the game, adding “a football match should never end in a tragedy” and the safety of fans should be paramount.
“We hope to curb all acts of violence at the various stadia and matches and it is incumbent on all of us to provide professional directives to ensure a safety-free environment during matches,” he said.
On his part, FIFA Senior Security Manager, Serge Dumortier said security and safety ranks amongst the most important areas of football, which has led to the establishment of division for safety and integrity.
He mentioned CAF as the beneficiary of the Security Officers Seminar after CONCACAF and AFC.
Topics to be discussed include FIFA Stadium and Security Regulations, Safety and Security Management, Crowd Management, Fire, Terrorism as well as the FIFA Integrity Initiative
Other speakers are Deborah Doe, FIFA Security Consultant and Patrick Beckles, FIFA Security Officer.
Security Officers from fifty-one (51) Member Associations are taking part in the three day seminar.
