The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken whole credit for the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line project, which was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, July 26.
The party accused the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of appropriating the project.
Reacting to the launching of the project, PDP spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, said the Olusegun Obasanjo administration conceptualised the project, while “successive PDP administrations of President Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan commenced work and built the project to 99 percent completion.”
“The only work done by President Muhammadu Buhari on the project was yesterday’s commissioning,” read the statement.
“The truth, which history will bear out, is that the PDP in its 16 years of rule successfully completed numerous projects that substantively changed the infrastructural landscape of Nigeria.
“Every one of those 16 years were years of great productivity with remarkable landmark achievements. This is very much unlike the APC which has already wasted one full year without even scratching one square meter of ground anywhere in the country,” he said.
Although the President acknowledged that the “project was conceived by a previous administration, started by the last government and I am pleased to complete and commission it,” the PDP insists the project was completed by the Jonathan administration.
The Abuja-Kaduna train services (Passengers & Freight) is Nigeria’s first ever Standard Gauge Rail track to go into operation.
