Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged his administration’s financial backing toward the completion of the new emergency room at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia.
This was discussed during Otti’s visit to the health center with its chief medical director, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi.
Construction is currently underway on a new wing since the existing accident and emergency department is too tiny and underequipped to treat the enormous number of patients admitted to the facility every day.

When it comes to emergency care and other forms of secondary and tertiary health care, FMC Umuahia is the only public medical institution in Abia State that is up and running.
Otti, speaking to the hospital’s director, explained that he wanted to have a firsthand look at the facility and feel compassion for the hospital’s patients.
He said he would pay for everyone he saw on his trip out of his own pocket.
Prof. Onyebuchi expressed his gratitude to the governor for his visit and gifts, praising the governor’s “unprecedented” generosity.
