Outgoing Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki on Friday dissolved his cabinet, just days before the November 12, 2024, swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the new governor of Edo State.
The dissolution comes five days before the completion of Obaseki’s two terms as governor. The State Executive Council (Exco) for 2020–2024 was dissolved following a valedictory session held at the Government House in Benin City.
Deputy Governor Godwin Omobayo moved the motion for dissolution, seconded by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.
During the session, Obaseki commended his cabinet members for their commitment to his administration’s vision of advancing Edo State, noting the successful delivery of key promises to the people.
He expressed gratitude to Edo residents for their support, collaboration, and prayers, which he credited as instrumental to the administration’s achievements across multiple sectors over the past eight years.
Council members took turns to praise Obaseki’s leadership and reflected on the administration’s impact in areas such as education, economic development, agriculture, power, and infrastructure.
They lauded the administration’s reforms and initiatives, describing Edo as a model of growth and progress.
Cabinet members, including Commissioners and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), presented awards and gifts to honor Obaseki’s leadership.
The evening culminated with a dinner in the governor’s honor, marked by speeches, standing ovations, and reflections on the administration’s journey in public service, aimed at economic prosperity and an improved standard of living for Edo’s residents.
