The Acting Chairman of Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) in Kano State, Bashir Kasim Dandago, has issued a statement distancing the council from a court order that restrained Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from utilizing funds from the joint State/Local Government Account for the construction of two bridges in the state.
Speaking to journalists alongside six out of 10 councillors of the LGA, Dandago rejected the court order obtained by the chairmen of the 44 local government areas of the state.
He highlighted that the elected council chairman, Khalid Ishaq Diso, who signed the lawsuit leading to the court order, is currently suspended by both the State House of Assembly and a law court.

Dandago emphasized that the suspended chairman lacks the authority to represent the council due to his suspension, and as such, his actions violate constitutional provisions.
He expressed the council’s support for the governor’s initiative to utilize the joint account for the bridge construction projects.
“We emphasize our full support for the execution of the two under bridge bypass projects, and we stand by it,” Dandago affirmed.
The acting chairman reiterated that Diso was suspended due to allegations of financial misappropriation, which led to his suspension by the House of Assembly.
He also pointed out that there is an existing court order restraining Diso from assuming the position of Chairman of Gwale LGA.
Accusing the suspended chairman of impersonation, Dandago stated, “For now, he is under suspension and has no power whatsoever to speak on behalf of the council.”
The statement from the Acting Chairman of Gwale Local Government underscores the division within the local government regarding the utilization of funds and the ongoing suspension of the council chairman, reflecting the complex dynamics of governance at the local level in Kano State.
