In preparation for the 2015 elections, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has sent another batch of 16,691 policemen on promotion course.
.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
.
Mba said that while on the course, the officers would undergo intensive training on election “protection duties’’, adding that it was a strategy to ensure orderly and violent-free elections.
.
“The course, which is concurrently taking place at various police training institutions nationwide, is specifically designed to equip the men with new skills in standard operational policing practices.
.
“It will also equip them with human rights protections, principles of democratic policing, as well as rules of engagement in election security,’’ he said.
.
The Force spokesman said that the course is intended to boost the morale of the officers, adding that it would also aid their performances in field operations.
.
The I-G has assured that the police will continue to adopt the best approaches to ensure security of lives and property and to protect the integrity of elections in the country, he added.
.
It will be recalled that the police sent the first batch of 160,000 personnel on training for the same purpose on Feb. 4.
