Iran on Friday condemned the United States’ latest move to impose shipping-related sanctions aimed at restricting its crude oil trade with international partners.
The U.S. Treasury announced on Thursday that it had imposed new sanctions on several individuals and tankers accused of transporting millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil to China annually.
These sanctions mark the first U.S. action against Iran’s oil exports since President Donald Trump vowed to reduce them to zero as part of efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear program.

Reacting to the development, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, criticized the sanctions as “illegitimate and unlawful.”
“The decision of the new U.S. administration to exert pressure on the Iranian people by preventing Iran from conducting legitimate trade with its economic partners is an illegitimate and unlawful action,” Baghaei said.
He further warned that Iran holds the United States accountable for the consequences and repercussions of what he described as “unilateral and bullying actions.”
