The Jigawa State Government has clarified the delay in the commencement of its Ramadan feeding program, attributing it to necessary procurement processes and ensuring compliance with due processes.
Commissioner of Special Duties Auwal D. Sankara made this known in a statement issued to the media.
The Jigawa State Executive Council had previously approved over N1 billion for feeding at least 300 people in each of the 609 Iftar feeding centers and 10 tertiary education institutions in the state during the Ramadan period.
In the statement, Commissioner Sankara apologized for the delay and announced that the feeding program would commence on Friday, 12th Ramadan, 1445AH, equivalent to March 22, 2024.
He further elaborated on the implementation plan, which includes appointing main vendors or contractors for each of the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and sub-vendors for the 609 Iftar centers.
The commissioner appealed to all stakeholders to support and cooperate with the government in its efforts to provide essential support to those in need during the holy month of Ramadan.
