Plateau State chapter of Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) has noted with concern, moves by a party in the current violence in the state to give the crisis a religious coloration.
In a communiqué signed by its treasurer, Sani Bala yesterday in Jos, the state capital, JNI condemned the attacks on innocent people in Kadunu of Mangu LGA and some areas in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, as well as the burning of worship centres in Kadunu, during Wednesday’s attack.
According to the communiqué, the JNI observed that the renewed attacks in northern Plateau are a Berom agenda of wiping out communities that are predominantly inhabited by Muslims.
While accusing Berom youths of being behind the current outbreak of violence in the area, the JNI also described the attacks as a ploy to instigate religious violence because the attacks were not only on individuals but also on places of worship.
Mr. Bala, therefore, demanded the arrest of a Berom youth leader, whose comments he pointed out, indicated he knew those behind the Kadunu attack.
