A Sharia Court in Kano State has ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Abduljabar Nura, in a correctional facility for allegedly stabbing his neighbor during a dispute over an electricity bill.
Nura, who resides in Fagge Quarters, was arraigned on Wednesday and charged with causing grievous hurt. When the charge was read, he pleaded guilty.
Presiding Judge Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar directed that the defendant be held at Goron Dutse Correctional Centre until April 15, when he will be sentenced.
Prosecution counsel Zahradeen Abubakar informed the court that the complainant, Haruna Kasim, reported the incident at the Fagge Police Station on February 28.
According to the prosecution, an argument over an electricity bill led to the altercation, during which Nura stabbed Kasim in the back with a pair of scissors.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Sections 158 and 165 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State.
