The Borno State Government on Wednesday said it would begin a Conditional Cash Transfer scheme to help girl child enrolment in schools.
Alhaji Musa Kubo, the Commissioner of Education, made the statement at a news conference in Maiduguri.
“The state government is to introduce a Conditional Cash Transfer to support girl child enrolment and retention in school.
“It is a deliberate attempt to address societal challenges and encourage growth of girl education in the state,” Kubo said.
“The state government is doing all it takes to ensure all school age children are back in classroom.
“We have constructed thousands of classrooms and rehabilitated schools vandalized by the insurgents.
“The state government paid its counter part funding to the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme.
This will facilitate construction of about 2, 000 classrooms and establishment of additional 20 model schools,”.
Kubo further revealed that the state government was spending about N100 million monthly, on feeding of boarding school students.
