Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have successfully rescued 36 kidnapped victims along the Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to the statement, on December 8, 2024, a group of heavily armed gunmen barricaded the Mairairai/Bena road and abducted 36 individuals returning from their farms.
Upon receiving the distress report, a joint team of police officers, soldiers, and vigilantes was swiftly mobilized to the scene.
The security operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, overpowering them and forcing them to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds.
All 36 victims were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families.
The State Police Commissioner, Bello Sani, commended the bravery, resilience, and professionalism displayed by the operatives.
He also urged them to remain vigilant and ensure that Kebbi State does not become a haven for criminals.
Sani further called for enhanced collaboration between security agencies to decisively tackle banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.
