The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan made the appeal today at the Lagos House Annex, Alausa Ikeja, during the “Ownership Workshop” organized by the State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and other stakeholders in the State.
The Special Adviser urged community leaders to take charge of projects in their constituencies by asking questions where necessary, facilitate cordial relationship between members of their community and contractors, as well as provide support to facilitate speedy completion of projects domiciled in their areas.
While noting that, the projects will commence in the first quarter of 2016, Bamigbetan expressed optimism that the road construction projects will enhance commercial activities in all the benefitting communities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Body of Executive Secretaries, Hon. Kolade Alabi, stated that, the roads project will meet the needs of the masses in the society.
He added that, it will also reduce the travel time from one area of the State to the other.
Hon. Kolade however implored all the Community Development Associations to ensure that they monitor and protect the projects when work commences.
He further stressed that, it is their project and they should create a cordial working relationship between the contractors and the residents in their communities.
“On our own part, we assure the Community Development Associations and other relevant stakeholders of maximum cooperation and we will not compromise in ensuring that the contractors meet the required standard for the projects”, he added.
The Chairman commended the initiative of the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on the constructions of two roads per Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State, saying that, the policy underscores his policy of inclusive Governance which he promised during his manifesto.
He then implored all the community Development Associations to ensure that they also participate actively in the projects because they are the beneficiaries of the projects when completed.
The workshop was attended by community leaders, market women, traders and artisans drawn from all the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State. [LASG]
