The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Prof Amos Utuama SAN has challenged children of school age not to allow their peculiar situation to deprive them of their ambition rather they should see their deprivations as a motivating factor to distinguish themselves.
Prof Utuama offered this advice when students of Our Lady Queen of Wisdom International School and St. Mary Immaculate Orphanage Home, Benin City, Edo State on excursion tour of Delta State paid him a courtesy call in his office.
While commenting on the presentation of the students, the Deputy Governor observed that the children were not in any way disadvantaged stressing that most notable and successful men and women in the society were at a time faced with one deprivation or the other, adding that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan also encountered some deprivations in his school days.
He briefed the students on the administrative agenda of Delta State, its geographical location, infrastructure, education, human, health and mineral resources of the State, emphasizing that education and child’s health were top priority in the State as every child from age 0-5 years is entitled to free medical care and every first class graduate is entitled to scholarship up to PHD level including bursary to students of tertiary institutions.
Delivering their congratulatory message at the occasion, the Class Captain, Master Collins Ugwuoke congratulated the State Deputy Governor on his award as the Best Deputy Governor in the Nation, noting that his support and benevolent acts towards human lives and the less privileged distinguished and ranked him best among all deputy governors in the nation.
The Founder of the school and the orphanage home, Rev. Adolphus Umechukwu called on Nigerians to think of what they can offer the nation and not what the nation will offer them, hinting that this believe propelled him to establish the school and the orphanage home.
He informed the Deputy Governor that in order to meet the running cost, the school enrolled other students disclosing that the school presently has twenty-Eight (28) orphans and appealed that every concerned persons should support the orphans.
The highlights of the visit include presentation of both financial and edible gifts to the children as well as presentation of song of congratulations to the Deputy Governor.
