Next month sees the return of the action from Flemington racecourse for the 2015 Melbourne Cup, and this year’s edition of “the race that stops a nation” is set to be an absolute cracker. Here is a break-down of several of the runners that might just be set for victory, as well as a guide to how you can harvest a decent return on your stake with online bookmakers, such as Betway.
Locked-in as red-hot favourite will be Fame Game, the Japanese-born horse who has shown excellent form over longer distances, which should put him in a great position when the action gets underway. If there is a question mark against his name, it may come from the fact that in his five Group One races he has only placed once, but he looks in fine fettle this year and will be strongly-backed across the board.
A more romantic option would be Red Cadeaux, who has finished as runner-up at the Melbourne Cup on three previous occasions – but at nine years old, might find that 2015 represents his last chance to secure victory at last. His trainer, Ed Dunlop, has expressed surprise at the generous odds that Red Cadeaux has been afforded this year, and has stated that his horse’s preparations have been “spot on”.
Max Dynamite won the G2 Lonsdale Cup over 3300 metres earlier this year, beating fellow Flemington runner, Trip To Paris, and has shown excellent form over longer distances. He also seems to enjoy running on anti-clockwise tracks, having placed four times (including two wins) in this fashion, so for the superstitious would be an interesting proposition.
Amralah will have slightly longer odds than he perhaps deserves, and the Irish-bred horse will be well-backed regardless of the 3 kg penalty he will accrue as a result of his win at the Herbert Power event earlier this month. He struggles slightly over longer distances, but would be well-worth an each-way punt – just so long as he gets a good start.
Gust Of Wind impressed at this year’s Caulfield Cup, when he finished fourth, and also beat Winx (the Cox Plate-winner) at the Group One ATC Oaks, but his failure to place at four previous Melbourne Cups will see bookies running for cover. Meanwhile, Quest For More offers excellent value despite his woeful display at the Geelong Cup when he came home in a pitiful sixteenth place. He has already beaten Trip To Paris and Max Dynamite this year and could well secure a top-four finish, provided he gets a good start.
The Melbourne Cup is one of the stand-out events of the racing season, and represents both an exciting race and a fantastic opportunity for the brave punter to make some quick cash – and armed with this guide, you will have an excellent chance. Good luck!
