My Arrest, One Of The Hazards Of Being A Former Governor, Says Lamido

The immediate past Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido yesterday described his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political hazard that any politician worth his salt must pass through.

The ex-governor spoke to journalists at his NNDC residential quarters in Kano shortly after he returned from Abuja in company of his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, who were also arrested by the anti-graft agency.

Lamido described his arrest as the beginning of restoration of confidence in political leadership in Nigeria even as he recalled that this is not his first encounter with prison and would never allow his recent travails to discourage him from politics.
He said he had gone through many political incarcerations in the past and that if the purpose of his recent arrest by the EFCC is to humiliate, deconstruct and destroy then people should not be discouraged.

“In the process to improve democracy, there would be some mistakes. I am not a perfect human being; I have my own shortcomings. And in my own case, I have a very loud mouth and therefore people always found me too offensive and irritating”, he said.

Lamido added that a politician that is determined to serve his people should not look for perfections.
Despite his predicament, the former governor said he had no grudges against anybody, saying those who see him as corrupt and those who do not are entitled to their opinions.

“Whoever runs an office of governor must face the consequences of its hazards. I am now on bail and the bail is very important to me because it is based on my personal capacity as Sule Lamido”, he said.
He assured that he will never run away from Nigeria and abandon his children, family and friends.
It was learnt that the former governor arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in a chartered aircraft together with his two children, and was received by a mammoth crowd of loyalists including his former commissioners.
