The Nasarawa state government said it has successfully paid about N4.3 billion to local government workers as salaries out of the N8.9 billion bailout funds received from Federal Government contrary to statement made by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Clarifying the issue, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aliyu Ahmed Tijjani said N8.9 billion was received in two batches of N3.9 billion and N4.3 billion as bailout funds which part of it has been shared.
Speaking to journalists in Lafiya on Sunday, April 24, 2016, Tijjani said the state government presented a cheque of N4.3 billion to the chairman of ALGON on the 25 of October 2015 adding that the sum of N2.2 billion was required every month to pay hundred percent of local government workers salaries.
“The workers have arrears of two and a half months amounting to N5.6 billion which settled for the months of July and September, 2015,” Tijjani said.
A former ALGON Chairman and now sole administrator of Lafia local government, Suleiman Wambai said the payment of N4.3 billion bailout funds to local government workers was made.
Also, Narasawa State Labour Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka said he benefited from the bailout funds as a local government staff.
