The State Information boss, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has commended Elohim Consult the contractor handling the construction of the new NUJ Secretariat for progress made so far on the building. Mrs. Semenitari made the commendation during a tour to the site recently in Port Harcourt.
“We are very pleased with what the contractor is doing here, both the Contractor and the Consultant have kept to the schedule as agreed during the ground breaking and we see that work has progressed quite fast, we think that is a very good idea clearly we would meet our deadlines and be able to handover this building to the union in the shortest possible time”, she said.
The Commissioner explained that the new secretariat’s e-library would enhance professionalism amongst media practitioners “the resource centre would be open to everybody for assessment of government reports and for journalists to easily make reference to reports without having to come all the way to the Ministry of Information”, she said.
On the management of the centre, the Commissioner said, it would be wise for the NUJ to contract the management of the building to a property management firm, “part of our agreement with the union was that it would make sense to contract the management of this premises to a property management firm so that the funds that come from it would be used to maintain it because we want a situation where this building would remain in top condition in many years to come”.
The Information boss also commended the State Governor Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for instituting the public procurement act “ because that procurement process is the reason the NUJ building is finishing so fast”.
The Chief Executive of Elohim Consult Mr. Peter Ajiente thanked the Rivers State Government for choosing the company to handle the project through the public procurement process; according to him “ this is one testimony to show if procurement is properly made and you have right professionals in place, you can have your procurement properly delivered”.
