The Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs will consider signing a partnership agreement with the Football Academy founded by a former captain of Nigeria’s Senior national football team, Joseph Yobo to help train Niger Delta youths as footballers.
The release from the Publicity Department of the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs recently indicates that the football academy is located in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The report also said that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani revealed this when he received the former Nigerian International Footballer on a courtesy call in his office in Abuja on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. Adding, we can partner with your football academy to develop talents in the Niger Delta Region.”
The Minister commended Joseph Yobo for projecting the image of Nigeria positively, through sports, saying his offer to partner with the Ministry in the training of Niger Delta youths to become professional footballers was evident of the patriotism of the star footballer.
“Whatever you offer to do, so long as it is within our need and legitimate responsibilities, we will accept.” the Minister stated, inferring that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was prepared to benefit from his contribution towards developing the region.
Speaking at the occasion, the Nigerian ex-international player recalled his exploits as a footballer and narrated how he rose through the ranks to become the captain of the national team. He reiterated his desire to contribute his quota towards making the Ministry successful in the discharge of its responsibilities in the Niger Delta Region.
“I will contribute whatever I can to make your tenure the most successful as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs,” Joseph Yobo vowed.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Belema Wakama thanked Joseph Yobo for his good gesture and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to work with him.
