The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with armed robbery and acts of thuggery in Minna, the state capital.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests were made following a report on September 14, 2024, at around 10:45 pm.
The Chanchaga Police Division received information that a group of six hoodlums, armed with cutlasses and knives, had attacked individuals near the Old City Gate, by Eastern Bypass in Minna, robbing them of mobile phones and other valuables.
Upon receiving the report, police patrol teams and local vigilantes were swiftly deployed to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects, 20-year-old Abba Salihu and 18-year-old Amar Haladu, both from Angwan Kampani, Minna.
The remaining suspects managed to escape.
“The suspects were arrested with cutlasses, and they confessed to being part of a gang responsible for unrest in the Shango community area of Minna.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing members,” SP Abiodun stated.
In a related development, the police also arrested a suspected vehicle thief and recovered a stolen Toyota Highlander.
SP Abiodun revealed that the police had received a distress call on September 4, 2024, at about 4 am, reporting that a group of hoodlums had broken into a residence in Tudun Wada, Sabon-Wuse, Tafa, and made away with a Toyota Highlander (registration number ABJ 775 AT) along with other valuables.
Alerted security posts along Kaduna Road intercepted the stolen vehicle at a customs point, where one Halilu Shuaibu, 28, of Gwarinpa, Abuja, was apprehended.
“The suspect claimed the vehicle was given to him by one Baba Gadas of Zuba and was to be delivered to one Mubarak in Kaduna for disposal,” SP Abiodun added.
Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
