Immediate past governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has described the late Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as an example of a leader in the country.
He spoke at the centenary lecture organised by the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan on Thursday.
According to Kalu, Nigeria can never have a leader like Awolowo, who he said selflessly impacted on the lives of his people in a manner that no other citizen has achieved till date.
He, therefore, called on the present crop of leaders in the country to emulate the leadership qualities of the late sage by shunning greed, among others.
The former governor also enjoined journalists and other professionals to emulate Awolowo so that the country could have “credible leaders in various establishments”.
“I urge journalists and other professionals to emulate Chief Awolowo because if we put our axe together we can get other leaders with the qualities and attributes of this sage”, Kalu said.
