Nigerians have been urged to consider seeking divine intervention as a way out of the challenges facing the country.
Pastor Joseph Olalekan, who is also the Chairman, Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Ibukun, Iloro Zonal Headquarters, Ile-Ife, gave the advice while speaking in Ile-Ife on Wednesday.
Olalekan said that it would not be out of place to say that Nigeria needs God’s intervention at a period like this.
He lamented the state of the nation’s economy, which he said was plagued with unemployment, unpaid salaries of workers, increased in price of goods, lack of stable power supply and non-availability of potable water, among others.
The cleric said that instead of removing the fuel subsidy, government should have considered finding other solutions to the challenges confronting the populace.
“Nigeria has got to her `Kadesh-Barnea – Centre of confusion’ and the next thing is to cry unto the Creator to see her through, for He is the way where there seems to be no way,” he advised.
He enjoined the citizenry to jointly call on God to deliver Nigeria from the dungeon, adding that the government alone could not solve the prevailing problems.
“With God, there is hope for Nigeria,” he said.
Olalekan, however, called for further dialogue between the government, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) towards reducing the pump price of petrol.
“The price of petroleum determines the state of the economy, however, dialogue is better than dispute,” he said.
The pastor also advised leaders to be faithful to those who voted them into power, calling them to remember the vows they made during their various campaigns to forsake comfort during their tenures.
“Our leaders; government must, therefore expedite their efforts in ensuring that life is made easier for the generality,” he said.
