The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on security in response to the country’s recent spate of security challenges.
The call was made by the National President of the union, Comrade Audu Amba, during the NUT 6th Annual Solemn Assembly held in Abuja on Monday.
Amba emphasized the need for decisive action by the government, stating that Nigeria has faced unprecedented security challenges in recent times.

He highlighted the importance of security, stating that it is essential for the country’s progress and development.
The NUT president also addressed teachers’ welfare issues, calling for a constitutional amendment to prioritize the funding of primary and secondary education in the country’s revenue allocation.
He expressed concern over the irregular salary payment of teachers and called for the implementation of the Teachers’ Professional Salary Structure, which was supposed to be implemented in 2023 but has not been accommodated in the budget.
Amba further stressed the need for a uniform scheme of service for all teachers and urged the government to implement an acceptable and sustainable minimum wage for workers, including Nigerian teachers.
He emphasized that the NUT would continue to push for these reforms to ensure the welfare and well-being of teachers across the country.
