Rivers State Government has directed that all medical emergencies should be handled by all health facilities operating the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Hospitals. The measure is to ameliorate the effect of the on-going nationwide strike by the Nigerian Medical Association. According to a statement from the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Sampson Parker, all free medical patients booked for caesarean sections would be handled by the MOU Hospitals. Dr. Parker further added that all Primary Healthcare centres will remain open to carry out immunization services and other screening activities throughout the duration of the strike.
The Commissioner advised members of the public to call GSM No 08033104730 and 112 for all medical emergencies.
The MOU Hospitals are, Military Hospital Port Harcourt, Riverside Hospital, Harbour Road, Princess Medical Centre T/ Amadi, PH, Prime Medical Consultants Rumuogba, First Gate Dental Centre Old GRA, Atinu Medical Care Elelenwo and the Kelsey Harrison Hospital in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
It would be recalled that the state government signed a Memoranda Of Understanding with some Hospitals to handle medical emergencies during period of crises.
