The Adamawa State Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Mr. Ubi Ikpi Nkanu, yesterday gave the assurance that the service would ensure that only Nigerians vote in next month’s general elections in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Nkanu said the command was collaborating with other security organizations to prevent infiltration of foreigners during elections.
He also charged the staff of NIS to exhibit professionalism in the course of discharging their official responsibilities, warning them against collaborating with aliens to facilitate illegal immigration in to the country.
“We will fire any staff that conspires to allow foreigners to vote in the next election. Despite the challenge, my organization is doing its best to ensure that foreigners did not infiltrate the country”, he said.
The NIS boss also called on the border communities to volunteer information about movement of suspected people in their areas to security agencies so as to ensure tight security in the state.
Mr. Nkanu further commended residents of the state for embracing the e-passport scheme recently introduced by the federal government, pointing out that about 5000 passports were issued in 2014.
