The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory has expressed deep concern over the prevailing economic hardship and increasing security challenges across the country.
In a statement, the Secretary-General of Northern CAN, Elder Sunday Oibe, lamented that the suffering in the country has become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians.
Oibe highlighted the high cost of foodstuffs, transportation, goods, and services, which has made life difficult for many Nigerians.
He also pointed out that the erratic power supply has led to the collapse of many small businesses.

The continuous depreciation of the value of the naira and the apparent inability of the government to address the situation have significantly weakened the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.
The statement further emphasized the escalating insecurity, characterized by rampant killings and kidnappings for ransom.
Oibe urged the government to take urgent steps to address the depressing economic and escalating security situation in the country.
Northern CAN also expressed dismay over the rampaging activities of bandits in Plateau state and other parts of the country.
The recent attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau, where many people were killed and several houses burnt, were particularly highlighted.
This comes after previous attacks in Barakin Ladi, Bokkos, and the same Mangu, resulting in the deaths of over 300 people.
Calling for a review of the security architecture for effective and decisive action, the Christian body urged governments at all levels to provide the necessary support to security agencies to combat the criminals.
Additionally, Northern CAN appealed to all Nigerians to cooperate with security personnel and pray for them as they confront these threats to the nation.
