The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 45-year-old man for alleged railway vandalism and recovered stolen railway materials valued at millions of naira.
Commandant Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde disclosed this while briefing journalists in Bauchi, noting that the arrest and recovery were part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure.
“On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., following credible intelligence from the DSS Alkaleri Division, our operatives responded swiftly to a report of railway track vandalism at New Gwaram, along Gombe Road,” Oyerinde said.

Although the suspects had fled before officers arrived at the scene, a white Peugeot J5 van loaded with vandalized railway components was recovered. Items included 53 sleepers with bolts and nuts, 14 fish plates, and 20 bags of charcoal.
Further operations carried out in the Cross Tasha, Faruqu, and Taliyaje areas of Tubule Ward in Kirfi Local Government Area led to the arrest of one Usman Jungudo.
“The suspect was apprehended for unlawfully dismantling and selling railway parts. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and several items were recovered and secured at the state headquarters,” Oyerinde stated.
The Commandant commended his officers for their swift and effective response, describing their efforts as instrumental to the operation’s success.
“This is a clear warning — we will not tolerate vandalism of public assets in Bauchi State. Offenders will face the full force of the law,” he declared.
He added that investigations were ongoing and the suspect would be prosecuted accordingly.
Oyerinde also appealed to residents to support the NSCDC by reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing that “timely and accurate information is vital in combating crime and protecting our communities.”
