The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to tackle insecurity following reports of bandits infiltrating the South-West geopolitical zone.
In a statement released on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through robust collaboration among security agencies and local security outfits.
The statement outlined strategies, including the deployment of armed security guards to protect farmers on farmlands and sustained security patrols across the state.
It also highlighted the peaceful atmosphere during the festive season as proof of the effectiveness of the state’s security measures.
“The reported influx of bandits from the North into the South-West coincided with the recent security meeting of heads of security agencies in Ogun State.
After a careful review, the agencies resolved to redouble efforts to sustain the peace and tranquility enjoyed in recent months, especially during the festive season,” the statement said.
The government emphasized that security measures such as visible presence across communities, intelligence-led operations, patrols, and community partnerships have been revitalized to counter any potential threat.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or unfamiliar faces in their communities.
Commercial farmers were advised to continue utilizing armed security escorts and enhance visibility on their farms through lighting and surveillance.
Additionally, the statement acknowledged the ongoing intelligence-sharing collaboration between Ogun and Oyo states to monitor and address the movement of suspected bandits in the region.
“We already have a well-honed agenda to annihilate the bandits should they step into Ogun State.
All ethnic groups in the state, including Yorubas, Hausas, Igbos, Fulanis, and others, are united to jointly fight anyone who threatens the peace of Ogun State,” the statement added.
The government also issued a stern warning, stating that anyone found aiding or accommodating bandits in Ogun State, irrespective of ethnic origin, will face the full wrath of the law.
